The Academy of Children’s Theatre is pleased to announce their spring family musical, A Little Princess, to be performed April 27-29, 2018, at the Emmet Hook Performing Arts Center at the head of Texas Street in Shreveport. Based on the classic Victorian children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this reimagined version of the classic tale expands beyond the confines of Victorian England to Africa with lively African music and dance, exotic locales like Mali and Timbuktu, and creating an unforgettable journey around the world.
The production is directed by Cynthia Hawkins Whitaker with Musical Direction by Daniel Ley and Choreography by Elizabeth Carmody. The production will run

Separated from her father and the kind hearted Africans who helped him raise her, young Sara Crewe is sent to boarding school in London. When Sara’s father is presumed dead, she is forced to work as a maid for the cruel headmistress Miss Minchin. Sara’s positive attitude and vivid imagination in the face of hardship and extreme cruelty win her the admiration and friendship of all she encounters. This beautifully scored family-friendly musical about the grace and virtue of a little princess will be a spring presentation not to be missed.
