C.E. Byrd Presents ‘Carrie the Musical’


Kennedy Carey-Prescott and Heather Bryson lead the cast of the C.E. Byrd High School Drama Department’s spring production of Carrie the Musical. Carey-Prescott portrays Carrie White, and Bryson portrays her mother, Margaret White. Carey-Prescott was last seen on the Byrd stage in Sister Act in March 2017. Bryson is a local, professional actress, who was last seen in River City Repertory Theatre’s production of The Rocky Horror Show. Carrie will be presented in the C.E. Byrd High School auditorium March 15-18, 2018.

With music and lyrics by Academy Award winners Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who wrote the original screenplay, Carrie the musical is based on the Stephen King novel about a bullied and abused girl who discovers she has telekinetic abilities. Carrie contains strong language and mature themes and situations. Discretion is advised. Carrie the musical originally premiered in Stratford, England and on Broadway in 1988. A revised production premiered off-Broadway in 2012.

In addition to Carey-Prescott and Bryson, the cast of Carrie the Musical features Emma Barkley as Sue Snell, Trent Bryant as Tommy Ross, Cha’Dasity Taylor as Chris Hargensen, Alec Jackson as Billy Nolan, and Andrea Bryant, Byrd High School administrative assistant as Miss Gardner.

Rounding out the cast are John Lary, Chelle Williams, Tristan Dotson, Aliyah Rivers, Audrey Tate, Hailey Bryant, Roderick Hollins, Micheal Adkins, Holt Sutton, Kaila Harris, Riley Joyner, Hank Turnage, Ashlyn Douglas, Piper Miller, Anna Kate Ainsworth, Madison Sprague, Cade Worley, Jordan Joshua, Amaya Sanders, and Josh Holyfield.

Ryan Williams, director of the C.E. Byrd High School Drama Department, directs, with Jennifer Dudley as music director and LeVette Fuller as choreographer. Lighting design is by Jennifer Minor, and sound design is by Shane Reed. Jude Tilley and Maria Wilson provide stage management, and Cynthia Teddlie is the wig and hair designer. Sarah Baston-Skiles is associate director. Joy Ratcliff and Dory Michell are rehearsal accompanists.

The Byrd Drama Department will be working closely with the Byrd Counseling Office, Dr. Barzanna White, Caddo School Psychologist, Shelley Booker, MSW, LCSW, ACSW-Child/Family/Adolescent Counselor, the Byrd PTSA, and other organizations to provide information and resources for any audience member who might be a victim of bullying and/or abuse.
